The Human Figure
Due February 5th, 2015
Objective 1: Students will complete a self-portrait that has correct proportions using India ink and ink washes, which will be surrounded by a colored border/frame. Focus is on including emphasis, repetition/pattern, movement/rhythm, contrast/variety, balance, proportion, and unity.
Objective 2: Students will recognize and be able to explain how the elements and principles of design are used in personal artwork.
Vocabulary:
Line--connection of points that defines a space; varies in width, length, gesture, direction...
Value--lightness and darkness
Contrast--differences between elements in a composition (created through size, shape, value)
Monochromatic--1 color and all of its value
Polychromatic--having many colors
Proportion-- is the feeling of unity created when all parts (sizes, amounts, or number) relate well with each other. When drawing the human figure, proportion can refer to the size of the head compared to the rest of the body.

• 5 gestural action poses transformed into figures with correct proportions
• 2 final shaded drawings of figures in action poses. Your focus is on Movement, Proportion, and Value.
• 6 head sketches from different angles
• 2 shaded drawings of head sketches with accurate proportions
• Final portrait using India ink and ink washes, which will be surrounded by a colored border/frame. Border/frame should be narrative and relate directly to your personality/interests.
