WHat Does a Great Sketchbook Look Like?
As art students many of you have are familiar with the concept of a sketchbook. But have you really explored the full potential of your sketchbook? A sketchbook is like a writing journal in that you are recording your thoughts and analyzing them. A sketchbook adds visuals to your thoughts and ideas. Look at these examples of amazing sketchbooks!
Sketchbook Assignments: Drawings are to be done in order. All assignments due on the first day of class every week. Work will be a 0 after Wednesday! Sketchbooks will include warm-ups in addition to homework.
1. Bring in your student and class contract by Friday, August 26th.
2. August 26th: Stencil completed for surface decoration lesson.
3. August 30th: 5 patterns for stamping technique. Look through the Prezi on the glaze process. Be prepared for a quiz.
4. September 6th: Drawing for newsprint transfer technique.
5. September 12th: 2 drawings--1 for mishima & 1 for sgraffito.
6. September 20th: Look through the Prezi on the clay process. Be prepared for a quiz.

Answer these questions:

Have a design for class of a patterned coil pot based on tribal and contemporary patterns.
October 17th: Watch the slab construction videos. Watch the demonstration by A. Blair Clemo. List 3 ways you can use his technique in your artwork.
9.October 19th: Create a Pinterest board about slab containers. Title your board: (Your Name) Slab Container & class period. Share this by copying & pasting your board's URL into the "add link" option on Google Classroom. Use these images for reference sketches. Use your sketches to develop your building style. Have a design for a press-molded & pierced slab container based on the works of A. Blair Clemo.
10. November 14th:Review the glaze process Prezi. Add a color scheme to your Organic Pinch Pot drawing. Add a color scheme to your Patterned Coil Pot drawing. Add a color scheme to your Press-molded & Pierced Slab Container drawing.
11.December 5th: Watch the videos on Mishima & Sgraffito.

16 . January 13th: Write an expository essay about the theme of your slab sculpture. Minimum of 400 words.

- Students are not allowed to work from published photographs or other copyrighted work. Classes are based on drawing from direct observation. Many students have years of experience drawing from photographs, and are quite accomplished at it. Nevertheless, this program follows the AP College Board Guidelines, and does not support working from copyrighted material.
- Each Homework assignment is worth two grades. One grade is a Homework Grade (due date) and a second grade is a Daily Grade (composition and content). Homework is an essential component of the grading process in discussing strength and growth in a student’s work
