• Art I is a course designed for students who are interested in the practical experience of art and wish to develop proficiency in concept, composition, and media exploration while developing their ideas for individual portfolios. Students begin creating portfolio work that will be used over the school year in exhibitions and competitions,
• It is important that quality work be created at all times during the four years in the Carver Art Program for possible scholarship opportunities for each student. In building work for a portfolio, students experience a variety of concepts, techniques and approaches designed to help them demonstrate their abilities as well as their versatility with technique, problem solving, and ideation.
• The course is taught in a studio environment, giving students ample space, quality supplies, and natural light to produce their work as in a collegiate or university environment. Our role is to facilitate the development of creative thinking and expression as well as giving the student an opportunity to produce distinctly individualized work.
Goals
• To encourage creative and systematic investigation of formal and conceptual issues in art
• To emphasize making art as an on-going process that involves the student in informed and critical decision making while using complex problem solving skills
• To develop technical versatility and expertise while using Elements and Principles of art
• To encourage students to become independent thinkers who will contribute inventively and critically to their culture, celebrating multiple perspectives and view points as well as multiple solutions.
$20 Art Fee per semester for a total of $40 per year. Due Friday September 9, 2016 and Friday February 3, 2016
